Valentine’s Day is, for many, not a very significant holiday. Commercialized knickknacks have taken over the true purpose of the day: to celebrate love in all its many forms—and what better love to receive than the love of a dog?

This Valentine’s Day, give the gift that keeps on giving. Chocolate only lasts so long, but as Roger Caras, American wildlife preservationist, author, and photographer, said, “Dogs are not our whole life, but they make our lives whole.”

(And besides, puppy kisses are way better than chocolate kisses).
